Blocked barrel.

Picture
This very nice Webley pre charged pneumatic air rifle came in apparently working but nothing emerging from the barrel. That'll be a blocked barrel then.

A quick look at the guage shows plenty of pressure.

I have come across this problem plenty of times before. Here we see a jammed pellet being pulled from the bore with our guided pellet pulling tool.  I have seen a lot of damaged barrels from people trying to clear the pellets themselves.  If you don't have the right tool, or don't know what you're doing, just leave it alone.  It's a simple job for a work shop, so shouldn't cost much.

So, how many pellets were in there?

Nine!

You can see the virtually undamaged front pellet, and the heavily deformed following pellets here.

How did it happen? Well, this rifle is operated by bolt action and has an eight shot rotary magazine; my best guess is that the bolt was operated twice and only fired once. This type of double indexing leads to two pellets being loaded, even this rifle doesn't have the power to expel two pellets at the same time, but it will force them about half way up the bore blocking the barrel. The user then fired more shots, with each pellet hammering into the blockage, before realising that nothing was emerging form the muzzle, and very sensibly taking it to the gunsmith for attention.

Mmm.  Eight shot magazine, so that's a full magazine plus one more wedged in the barrel.  The previous barrel blockage we saw was a break barrel, also with eight pellets stuck in the barrel.  That was even more strange though, because with a break barrel you can easily  check the barrel by looking through it when you reload.

All done, power tested and ready for collection.
