Dryfire target simulator.

I had been watching the development of the Dryfire target simulator for some time, and eventually got around to asking for a demonstration last summer.  When the nice people from Dryfire came to  our workshop with one of their simulators I  hoped to be impressed by the system, and I was.   I placed an order for the twin head version  immediately .  I will put a full article complete with pictures on here about the Dryfire  shortly, but we have been so busy I just haven't had the chance yet.  However,   the Dryfire is proving to be  a very useful addition to our gunfitting service and I felt I needed to let people know.

We use the Dryfire simulator alongside our own Laser Gunfitting System and find that we gain a much greater insight to how our customers can improve their shooting.  Once we have checked the fit of the gun with our Laser Gunfitting System, and used the video analysis to help our customers correct any errors with their mount, we move on to using the Dryfire.  The Dryfire is self calibrating and can't on it's own tell you whether your gun fits or identify faults with your mount, but used as part of the coaching process it is an absolute boon to improving your technique.  We have helped many clients identify errors in their technique which don't easily show up with a static target.  We use the Dryfire from the same position as our Laser Gunfitting System, and so can use the same video camera feedback to identify problems, or confirm that all is well.

Using  the Dryfire  and video, we have been able to identify many common problems with technique.  Many people find it hard to believe some of the faults that they have, but it is hard to argue with the video evidence.   Common problems that we are identifying are: failing to start moving correctly as the target appears,  stopping or slowing  the swing before the shot is fired, problems caused by poor foot position, lifting the head,  even closing both eyes before firing is more common that you might imagine.  You can only improve once you know what is holding you back and the Dryfire can help a coach show you what is happening.

I especially like the ability of Dryfire to show where a target has been missed.  When practicing on your own with real clays it can be hard to tell where a shot has gone if it misses, Dryfire shows you exactly where it went, which can be a little embarrassing actually , no more "Oh I just clipped it", not with a system that can tell you that you were three feet behind and two feet above.  The Dryfire might not tell you what you did wrong, but it will certainly tell you where the shot went, which is half the battle.

The targets are reassuringly hard to hit.   If you don't give them enough lead you will miss, if they are out of range they will not break.  This is no child's arcade game, but a proper target simulator that really can help you to  improve your shooting.

I have no financial connection with Dryfire, I just like their simulator.

If you would like to try the system for your self give me a call and book a session on the simulator.  Better still, book a full fitting session and we will really see what is going on.
