The Laser Gunfitting System.
Gunfitting using our Laser Gunfitting System and the recently installed Dryfire target simulator.
Our Laser and video system allows us to fit the gun correctly and identify any faults with mounting technique. Once this is done we then move on to the Dryfire target simulator to identify any problems with acquiring and and connecting with a moving target. This is also recorded on video so that we can analyse and discus any problems with the mount onto a moving target.
Laser Gunfitting System.
The Laser gunfitting System designed and developed by B. K. Webster Gunsmith, uses a laser to show where the shots are going combined with simultaneous three angle video recording of the shooter's mount. The simultaneous shot position logging and mount recording allows an unparalleled level of detail analysis of both the fit and the mount. B.K.Webster Gunsmiths were the first people in the country to use a laser for this purpose and therefore have unrivaled experience of interpreting the results.
As no live ammunition is used during this process young or novice shooters can be coached to use a better mount without fear of recoil.
The Laser Gunfitting System uses a calibrated laser that is placed in the barrel of the gun to be checked. Once this is in position the shooter mounts the gun and fires at a target within a projected image. When the trigger is pulled, an acoustic switch detects the sound of the lock operating and turns the laser on. This projects a red dot onto the screen that indicates exactly where the gun is pointing. Any error between where the shooter is aiming and where the gun is actually pointing is clearly discernible and measurable.
The ability to view the mount from head on and both sides simultaneously, combined with slow motion replay, freeze frame and shot position logging, provides for an unparalleled amount of detail and analysis during the fitting session. Brian will be observing to identify any deficiencies in technique and offer advice on how to improve these. The client can then practice any correction to their mount, and immediately see the improvement on the screen.
Dryfire target simulator.
We have found the Dryfire target simulator to be a very useful addition to our gunfitting, as it allows us to further check the fit and mount on a moving target. The Dryfire system itself is a fantastic piece of kit, allowing a vast arrange of targets to be simulated, with correct lead being required to hit the targets (not just a red dot to follow, you actually need to give the target the correct lead to hit it). The software provides accurate and instant feedback as to whether the target was hit. Better still if the target is missed, the system shows where the shot went and gives a measurement of by how much the target was missed and in what direction, even real clays don't provide that. The Dryfire is not a replacement for a coach, but it is a tremendous tool for improving your shooting.

A still image captured for the right, showing the engagement under the cheek bone, the contact in the shoulder, and the relationship between the head, shoulder, elbow, wrist and neck.
Everything is correct, except the front hand is a little too far back. This lady has only recently started shooting and her mount will improve as she gains experience.

A still image captured from the left, showing the relatinshops as above, but giving a better view of the head /rear hand relationship, the wrap over of the rear thumb, and the relaxed front hand.

Image from the head on camera (inbedded in the target) giving a targets eye view of the mount. This image is not one which you can get if you are firing live ammunition. This shows a nice balanced stance, with good head and arm positions; with the gun pointing straight at the camera, so no eye dominance problem here.
The instant feedback of shot placement and mount makes the Laser Gunfitting System a very powerful learning tool.
If a problem is identified with the fit of the gun the effects of the can be seen, and the required remedial action decided upon. If an error in the cast or the drop is identified the degree of stock movement necessary to correct this can be calculated. If it is feasible to move the stock to this position, the necessary work can be done within the workshop and the fit then rechecked. As B K Webster Gunsmith are a fully equipped gun repair workshop, reliable advice as to the practicality and cost of any alteration is always on hand. If it is not feasible to alter the existing gun to match the measurements required, a list of the recommended measurements will be provided to allow the purchase of a gun nearer to the correct fit.
